چکیده

Fast neutrons were used in the management of thirty patients with advanced salivary gland tumors. Twentytwo patients are the subject of this analysis. In only seven patients neutrons were used as the primary mode of management. The remaining patients either had recurrent disease after surgery and/or radiation, or received post-operative treatment with neutrons. After a minimum follow-up of one year, 66% of the patients are NED. However, control in the treatment volume is as high as 77% suggesting a definite improvement in the treatment of advanced salivary gland tumors.

Novel Technologies and Theoretical Models in Radiation Therapy of Cancer Patients Using 6.3 MeV Fast Neutrons Produced by U-120 Cyclotron

The analysis of clinical use of neutron therapy with 6 MeV fast neutrons compared to conventional radiation therapy was carried out. The experience of using neutron and mixed neutron and photon therapy in patients with different radio-resistant malignant tumors shows the necessity of further studies and development of the novel approaches to densely-ionizing radiation. The results of dosimetry ...

Immunohistochemical Expression of CD56 and ALDH1 in Common Salivary Gland Tumors

Introduction: Natural killer (NK) cells, of which CD56 is a specific marker, play an important role in host defense against tumors. Cancer stem cells, of which aldehyde dehydrogenase isoform 1 (ALDH1) is an immunohistochemical marker, are a group of tumorigenic cells which are involved in migration and tumor recurrences. We aimed to evaluate the expression of ALDH1 and CD56 in common salivary g...

Serum Levels of Cyfra 21 in Patients with Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors

Introduction: Cyfra 21 is a serum-soluble fragment of cytokeratin19. Increased Cyfra 21 serum levels and their benefit as a tumor marker have been shown in some malignancies. This study aimed to evaluate the serum levels of Cyfra 21 in patients with benign and malignant salivary gland tumors. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the serum level of Cyfra 21 in 44 patients with m...

T-helper Type 1 and 2 Cytokine Levels in Patients with Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors

Background: Salivary gland tumors are among malignancies that have high recurrence rate. Immune responses in salivary gland tumors have not been well elucidated. T helper type 1 (Th1) and Th2 cytokines have been reported to play a role in the outcome of head and neck cancers. Objective: To evaluate the serum levels of interferon gamma (IFN- γ), as the hallmark of Th1 cytokines, and interleukin-...
